Dear Friends,
I'd like to thank each and every one of my friends and supporters. 13,784 of
you went to the polls and together we made history. We elected the first
African-American on Staten Island.
We broke all stereotypes and showed that communities can come together to
make a difference. We showed that by going out and organizing at the
community level, talking to our friends, neighbors and families, that we
could pull together and Affect change.
I have fought tirelessly for the North Shore's betterment since I was a
teenager. I’ve done this as a volunteer, as Director of the Liberty
Partnership program at CSI, and by taking leadership roles on the Community
Board, Community School Board, and a number of other local civic
organizations.
This campaign is driven by a platform of better health care facilities, new
schools, a new Mariners Harbor library, and environmental justice for the
North Shore. These have been serious and unaddressed issues in our community
for years, and you can rest assured that I will not let up until our
district gets its fair share of infrastructure improvements and educational
and health care facilities. I have spent all of my adult life working to
galvanize and unite residents across this diverse district to do the work
that is necessary for the repair and revitalization of our neighborhoods.
While the election may be over the hard work is just beginning. We still
need to work together to provide health-care, transportation, education and
better economic development opportunities in our community. Together we will
be the voice in City Hall that demands our fair share of health-care,
education and transportation resources that our communities so desperately
need. Together we will create a North Shore where our families, friends and
neighbors can live happily, healthfully and safely together.
There
are no words that can express how I feel. From the bottom of my heart I
thank each and every one of you but more importantly you should thank each
other because this is your victory. I love you all.
